The Texas 6-Hour Adult Driving Course
Texas legislation categorizes adult motorists differently based on their specific age bracket. Here is the exact information you must understand:
- Adults Ages 18 to 24: The State of Texas dictates that you are legally required to finish a state-sanctioned 6-Hour Adult Driver Education Course prior to submitting an application for your driver’s permit.
- Adults Ages 25 and Older: Even though this specific course is not statutorily mandatory for this demographic, completing it is strongly advised. The reason? Finishing this 6-hour program permits you to entirely skip the challenging written knowledge evaluation at the DPS location.
Your Pathway to an Adult Driver's License
Comprehending DPS prerequisites can frequently feel overwhelming. Utilize this straightforward, sequential guide to secure your legal license promptly:
Finish the 6-Hour Program
Register for our Texas-approved 6-hour adult driving course, available either virtually or in a physical classroom setting. Upon successful completion, you will be awarded your official ADE-1317 certificate, which nullifies the requirement for the DPS written assessment.
Acquire Your B-Restricted License (Learner's Permit)
Transport your completion certificate, legal identification, original Social Security card, alongside two acceptable documents verifying Texas residency to the DPS to request your B-Restricted permit. This document grants you the legal right to practice operating a vehicle while accompanied by a licensed adult.
View the ITAD Presentation
The state of Texas mandates that every adult applicant must watch a complimentary, 1-hour Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) instructional video focusing on the perils of distracted driving. This requirement must be fulfilled within a 90-day window prior to your official road examination.
Engage in Practical Practice
Schedule our expert behind-the-wheel driving sessions. Our professional instructors will educate you on practical driving competencies across the local roadways of Highland Village, Lewisville, and Flower Mound.
Successfully Complete the Official DPS Road Test
Avoid waiting several months for an available DPS testing slot. Complete your official driving skills examination directly at Learn 2 Drive Academy, which operates as a state-authorized third-party testing facility.
